NATO Ports Under Siege From NoName Russian Hackers

Loading

Noname and Dark Storm took to their telegram channels on Monday to announce their most recent attacks on key NATO infrastructures.

Both Russian group mention eight different ports with the first threat band taking credit for six and the second taking credit for two.

Croatia suffered the highest number of attacks as the first threat actors took down the Port of Rijeka Authority, Zadar Cruise Port, Split Port Authority, Port Authority of Sibenik, and Port Authority of Ploce.

Bulgaria also saw its fair share of DDoS as it lost the Port of Varna to Noname. Dark Storm claimed responsibility for the attacks on North Sea Port and Europort in the Netherlands.

The attack is part of a larger campaign to target critical infrastructure and weaken NATO port defense. Recently,  NoName has employed a variety of tools to carry out their assaults. Avast discovered that the threat actor was utilizing the Bobik botnet to launch DDoS assaults in September.

However, it appears that the group largely recruits members willingly through its DDOSIA program, sometimes known as Dosia and Go Stresser, depending on versioning.

The DDoS assaults have been connected to the Russian hacktivist group Dark Storm, which announced its plans to target NATO online via an encrypted channel on the social media platform.

Massive DDOS on NATO’s Sites

Additionally, the organization appeared to be soliciting bitcoin payments for future assaults. The gang has used GitHub to host a range of illegal activities.

This includes leveraging GitHub Pages to host their DDoS tool website, dddosia.github[.]io, for free, as well as the corresponding GitHub repositories to host the most recent versions of their tools, as promoted in the Telegram channel.

Targeting Lithuanian companies, particularly those in the freight and shipping industries, was given a lot of attention in the beginning of January 2023. According to reports in the media this week, the actor has most recently started concentrating on prominent NATO ports.

NATO Ports Implement Security Measures

NATO ports guards its networks against harmful online activity around-the-clock, according to a study. NATO is taking measures to reinforce its security protocols, including increased monitoring of its networks, additional security measures for key personnel, and the implementation of new encryption techniques.

NATO port  is also working to strengthen its partnerships with other international bodies in order to share intelligence and prevent future attacks from NoName.
